"What is the relationship of Marxist-Humanist philosophy to a revolutonary organization today?"
Mon. June 30, 7:00 PM
Free; talk and open discussion.
At TRS Inc. Professional Suite, 44 East 32nd Street, 11th floor (bet. Park & Madison), Manhattan.
To begin the process of refounding a truly Marxist-Humanist organization,
the Marxist-Humanist Committee will look with new eyes at some key
writings of Raya Dunayevskaya, with the aim of digging deeper into some
of the questions she was grappling with at the end of her life, questions
that face not just a Marxist-Humanist organization, but the entire socialist
movement.
In particular, she held that Marx had concretized his philosophy
of revolution for organization only in 1875 with his Critique of the Gotha
Program. Today we must dig deeper into this ground, by studying the whole
of the Critique of the Gotha Program, but also build up the walls and roof by
asking what are the organizational consequences of Marx's philosophy of
revolution.
This meeting will be based in the following readings by Raya Dunayevskaya:
June 1, 1987 Draft Presentation (Chapter 1 of Power of Negativity)
March 12 and 20, 1953 Letters (Chapter 2 of Power of Negativity)
Not By Practice Alone (Chapter 14 of Power of Negativity)
Please join us as we try to answer these historic questions.
