To begin the process of refounding a truly Marxist-Humanist organization,
the Marxist-Humanist Committee will look with new eyes at some key
writings of Raya Dunayevskaya, with the aim of digging deeper into some
of the questions she was grappling with at the end of her life, questions
that face not just a Marxist-Humanist organization, but the entire socialist
movement.

BEHIND TODAY'S ECONOMIC CRISIS: TRYING TO SAVE CAPITALISM FROM ITSELF

The United States today is in the throes of two distinct but interrelated economic crises, a recession and a financial crisis. The latter crisis is potentially the more important one. While recessions typically create the basis for, and give rise to, the next upturn in the economy, the financial crisis could bring the economy crashing down. It calls into question the stability and indeed the very survival of capitalism.

JOIN US FOR A DISCUSSION on this critical issue. The discussion will be based on the article "Trying to Save Capitalism from Itself" by Andrew Kliman.

"We have just received an urgent message from Hassan Juma'a Awad, President of the Iraq Federation of Oil Unions. A translation follows below. The action he reports represents a dangerous escalation of the Oil Minister's hostility to the IFOU and its leadership. Oil Minister Hussein Al-Shahirstani is the same Maliki government official who some months ago directed the management of the oil companies not to have any dealings with the union.
